How To Explode Your Facebook Network

Since Facebook added the new "timeline" feature I have been able to connect with 15,000 awesome people.

Firstly, why would you want to connect with so many people on Facebook?

 

"Previously, people relied almost entirely on radio announcers, TVhosts, and traditional media to shape their opinions. Today, you can drive the conversation, voice your opinion, and connect with people all over the world using social media. Social media has democratized influence. Influence is the ability to drive action. For example, Oprah's opinion on literature has inspired millions to read titles from her book club. But you don't have to be Oprah to have influence. You influence your friend when she listens to a song you recommend on Facebook. You influence your coworker when he checks out an article you posted on LinkedIn and shares it with someone else. Social actions like these are a reflection of influence." ~ Klout.com

So, here's how to explode your network on FB:  

 

1) Take control of your timeline

Make your wall a place where people enjoy stopping by. To do that go to https://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=privacy and change it to "Only me" so that only you can post on your wall. There's nothing wrong with people writing on your wall but this is the easiest way to avoid being spammed. You may not get spam on your wall now but you will once you are connected with thousands and thousands of people. NOTE: Change this setting to "friend" the day before your birthday. This will give your friends the ability to wish you a happy birthday. 

 

2) Share content that is "Share-Worthy"

The easiest way to get followers and friend requests is to leverage viral content. In other words, most of your posts should be content that you ALREADY know is share-worthy. The vast majority of your posts should have already passed the "share worthy" test. The "share-worthy test" simply means that the content has already been shared by others. The more something is shared the more share-worthy it is. It's that simple. There are a few important things to consider such as the TIMING of your post, the amount of EXPOSURE that the content you are sharing has already recieved and the RELEVENCE of your post. Different people like difference things... so share content that is relevant to YOUR network. You will quickly learn what content people like based on the feedback you receive from people.

Facebook Friends

Search your facebook newsfeed for content that is being shared by a large number of people. If you are feeling lazy then feel free to grab content from me. You're welcome to do that with all my posts. Any attribution would be appreciated. What I have noticed is that people are happy for you to share posts as long as you are respectful and give credit where credit is due. To tag a person in on your post you need to use the @ symbol (shift-2) and type the person's name. Give attribution as much as possible. It is respectful and it will also help your post gain more exposure as your post will show up on THEIR timeline as well as your own. 

 

 

Google +

One of the quickest ways that I find "share-worthy" content is Googles new social network "google plus". If you're not yet using google plus then it's time to sign up --> https://plus.google.com/  Track down your friends and add as many people to your "circles" as possible. In the beginning I added people daily. Adding a person to a "circle" is facebook's equivalent of a friend-request. People are notified when they are added to other people's circles. By having a large network of people on google plus you will have a greater chance of finding quality posts. One technique that I came up with is to search google plus using CTRL-F and typing the word "shares". This will help you jump between posts that have already been shared and have therefore passed the share-worthy test. To make things easier, google plus now has a "What's hot" section which will show you the most shared posts of the day. Add people to your google plus network daily. 

 

 

News

Checkout the latest news on Google. Everybody likes to know something before their friends do... so if you come across news that you feel is relevant, important & entertaining to your facebook network then share it. 

 

 

Also, feel free to grab my content and use paint.net http://paint.net/ to remove my mention at the bottom. Replace it with a track-back to your profile... such as a message that says, "To see more checkout Rich Patt at Facebook.com/RichPatt "

This will bring people back to your posts/wall even if somebody copies the picture and shares it... probably for years

 

 

3) When you share a youtube video (or any video actually) you can actually change the description area. Most people don't realise that. So go to the original youtube link and paste the video URL into your facebook status update. Click on the description area and you will see that you can edit it. Always include a little message so that when people share your video THEIR network of friends will see your message... such as "To see more checkout http://www.Facebook.com/RichPatt "

You need to include the http:// with videos to make the link a hyperlink (clickable)

 

 

4) Facebook will show your posts to people IF they think that you have a strong connection with that person. For that reason I always click "like" when people comment... especially if it's a person who hasn't commented for a long time. This will make you show up in each person's notifications... but it will also tell facebook that you have a stronger connection to that person... and so facebook will make sure that your posts show up on their wall. If you notice my last post I have encouraged people who don't usually comment to make a comment. That helps to make sure that i show up in their newsfeed. 

 

 

5) Every day you should wish people happy birthday. Sometimes I forget... but it is important. It shows you care and feeds the fb algorithm 

 

 

6) When you discover content from other people you should mention them when you make your post. Just use the @ symbol and type their name... to ensure that you have their name as a link. This will also make sure that your post shows up on THEIR wall and is seen by THEIR network. So it is polite and smart. 

 

 

7) Max out your subscriptions... you can subscribe to 5000 people... so target people within a group that has a higher chance of having the type of people that you want to connect with. In other words, if you want to connect with marketers... then checkout frank kerns profile and subscribe to all of his friends.

 

 

 get personal with friend requests. Max out your friend requests daily with SUPER targeted friend requests. Come from an emotional angle... find something in common and mention it. It will help increase the chance that they will accept your friend request and start the relationship off on a positive note. For example, i connected with Mike Hill (who has been known to charge 25,000 a day for a consultation) through a chat about our mutual like of "Jack Johnson". You already know about relationship building so i wont' patronize you any longer.

 

 

9) Change your job description to appear as a "call to action". When you showup in people's subscriber section they SEE your job position... so notice what i have done with mine... 

 

☯ ~ How to build a HUGE network on Facebook ~ ☯

 

The following information is a formula for people who would like to build a huge following on facebook. Before I continue let me point out that many people would pay a small fortune for what you are about to learn. These are some of my top secret strategies for building a huge network on facebook in a short period of time. 

 

Here's the formula:

 

1) SUBSCRIBE FIRST:On a daily basis max out your ability to subscribe to other people. Ideally you should connect with people who share some interest in common. You can subscribe to a maximum of 5000 people. This will get your name to show up in their subscriber list. You will get plenty of reciprocal subscribers (people who subscribe to you after they noticed that you subscribed to them) and you will also show up in their subscriber list. In your "About" section you can change your job or occupation to become a "call to action". In other words, you can put a sentence that will encourage people to checkout your profile. To see an example of this checking out my "job" section.

 

2) FRIEND REQUESTS:On a daily basis you can send about 25 new friend requests. I suggest that you be highly TARGETED with the people who you "friend". Don't just connect with anybody. Perhaps chose people from within a group that best reflects something that you are passionate about... so that you know that you already have something in common. Then mention WHY you are adding them as a friend and what you have in common. Don't just send a friend request and hope that it will be accepted. Introduce yourself and use it as an opportunity to start the relationship off positively. Some people have written to me saying that people keep rejecting their request to become friends... so here's a template that you could use:Hello Person's_Name

 

My name is _YourName_. I noticed that we share an interest in _InsertCommonInterest__ 

 

I just thought I would send you a message and see if you would be interested in connecting on facebook. I just sent a friend request :-)

4) USE YOUR BANNER SPACE:Use the personalised banner space to personalise. Also make it easier for people to notice that they have the ability to click "subscribe". This one change alone will increase your chance of getting subscribers.

 

5) INTERACT:Network with as people as possible. Being connected with people will not ensure that you show up high in their newsfeed. To do that you must FEED the facebook algorithm to show that there is a strong connection between you and the people you are connecting with. INTERACTION IS THE KEY. The more you interact with a person the higher you will be in their newsfeed. Remember that every time you interact with a person you are also feeding the facebook algorithm. It's also a great way to get to know awesome people :-) Thank people when they share your posts. Say happy birthday to people daily. Send the occasional "poke". Ask questions that encourage interaction. Ask people to like, comment & share.

 

6) LEVERAGE VIRAL MEDIA:Leverage the power of viral media: 

 

VIDEO: Most people don't realise this but you CAN edit the details of any video that you post on facebook, but only if it is a direct link (eg. a direct link to youtube). I edit the description area and put a "call to action" for somebody to checkout my profile and subscribe. When people share your post they will expose your message to their entire network. 

 

PICTURES:If you share a picture then whatever you have written will also be passed on so I put the comment "~ For more like this subscribe to Adam Jones ~". If you have energy then consider editing the pictures that you are sharing. I use software calledhttp://paint.net/ which is a basic picture editing program that has a lot of advanced features (like paintshop) and it's totally free. I paste a picture and then select "Image" from the toolbar and then "Canvas size" from the drop down menu. I expand the canvas size height by 20 pixels and then type a "trackback" comment at the bottom of the picture (8 pt font size). This means that if somebody copies the image then they would need to edit the image in order to remove your "trackback". Anytime this image is shared it will spread your message and help you to get more subscribers. You can also use this technique to get traffic to websites. For example, one of the sites that I often mention is http://www.YoutubeHigh.com/ which has valuable information combined with testimonials which help build credibility (through "social proof"). 

 

* Backlinks *Whenever you put a clickable link online you are creating a "backlink" which google will see. Backlinks are important. They help to lift the reputation of your site in the search engines. Having a good repulation will lift your site in the search results and help give you get a nice organic flow of traffic. Links posted on Facebook pull a lot of weight with google. The more the better.

 

7) MIX IT UP A LITTLEMy advise is that you mix up your personal posts with content that has ALREADY PROVEN ITSELF TO BE "SHARE WORTHY". I'm trying to coin the term "share worthy" LOL :-) If you are on google plus (G+) and you would like to know where to find the best of the best content each day (most shared) then checkouthttps://plus.google.com/u/0/hot Google+ will only get better and better so I DO suggest that you join it... if you haven't already.

 

8) GRATITUDE IS THE BEST ATTITUDEShow gratitude at every opportunity. Thank people for sharing your posts... and thank people for posts that you share. Give attribution as much as possible. Spend a little extra time to thank people for what they have shared with you. It's nice and it will stop people getting upset at you for "stealing" their content. Most people don't mind you sharing stuff as long as you give them credit. For those who don't know, you can tag people into a post by use the @ symbol and then typing their name (as long as they are within your network). Also provide a link to where you found the content if possible. 

 

8) AUTOMATE Whether you like it or not automation is a super powerful way to become a supercharged networker. I don't like to go overboard with automation. I like to keep my facebooking as real as possible. I am about to tell you about a powerful script that you can use to automate some of your facebook networking. Before you play with you first need to install an extension for firefox called "Greasemonkey". This will allow your browser to run scripts. To install Greasemonkey on firefox -->https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/Once Greasemonkey is installed you can now install the script. Here is a link to the best script currently available for power facebooking. Install it and play with it. --> http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/120770 Once installed, you can do a bunch of things easily including being able to return your daily pokes. Once installed, all you need to do is gohttp://www.facebook.com/pokes and your pokes should be automatically returned... even if you have hundreds of them. 

 

I strongly recommend that you keep your networking real as much as possible. Never forget that you are connecting with REAL people who deserve to be respected. Automation tools help you supercharge your networking but stay human. We humans are merging with technology at a rapid rate. Stay human! 

 

9) OFFER VALUE & GIVE FIRSTWe are moving away from the take economy towards a give economy. Personally, I enjoy the opportunity to help people FIRST. It is not only nice it is also smart. If you are an online marketer then don't just pitch your product to people who haven't expressed any interest. Honestly, there is enough money to be made by HELPING people to find what they want... so don't be annoying. This site has quality information that does not ask for a cent. Meanwhile, I make money from this site through "back-end" commissions. At no point is there a pushy sales pitch or a product to buy. The truth is that decent marketers have decent sales funnels. Spammers are usually beginners. If you wish to make money online then develop a "sales funnel" that helps people first & builds your credibility in the marketplace. If you have a decent sales funnel then you don't need to sell anything. 

 

In conclusion, the formula given above is a powerful one that you can implement immediately to rapidly build your facebook network. As your network grows I encourage you to use your influence wisely. Never forget that facebook is a place with REAL people. Turbocharging your facebook networking is great but NOTHING replaces a REAL connection. Take the time to get to know people. Enter other people's world not just your own. Open your heart a little and help where you can. Stay human. We are not just nodes on a network. Never forget that.
